National Mill Dog Rescue's Dog of the Day - CAYDEE

Hi there. My name is Caydee and I'm a 5 year old Shih Tzu who was rescued by National Mill Dog Rescue in early February. I am a sweet girl who truly loves people. However, I'm currently residing at the kennel and am in pretty desperate need of veterinary care right now, which is why I'm also featured on the home page of NMDR's website (www.milldogrescue.org).

I spent 5 years of my life as a breeding dog in a puppy mill in Missouri. I was kept in a small wire cage with no attention, no exercise and no vet care. My left hind leg is severely damaged. I think it's pretty extensive ligament damage as I am only able to hobble for a few seconds at a time. At the bottom of this page, there is brief video of me trying to walk. It is believed that this damage was caused by the combination of trauma, years of lacking vet care, continued neglect and atrophy from being confined to small space.

At their facility, NMDR is unable to provide the specialized vet care that I will require if I am to have a good quality of life. I need to visit an orthopedist and will follow that up with their recommended surgery.

The best case scenario is that my damaged ligaments can be repaired and I will be able to comfortably walk on all fours again. Worst case is still better off than I am right now, which would be to have my leg amputated and I learn to be a happy dog by getting around on three legs. Either way, NMDR does not have the funds right now to pay for my orthopedic vet care.

I know it's not common for a dog to post requesting help, and believe me, I'm a proud girl and it's hard for me to ask... but I really need your help. I'm only 5 years old and have so many years of life left to live. I did not ask for the nightmare of my past, but I am asking for a second chance right now. Please go to National Mill Dog Rescue's "Donate" page and let me know if you have any amount to assist with my surgery. Any amount helps.

In an effort not to be a nuisance, I will only leave my message up and request donations for myself for 48 hours. I also will do my best to keep everyone posted as to what the orthopedist recommends, surgeries, outcome, and what life holds for me as my new adventure of freedom outside a puppy mill unfolds.

Thank you for reading about me and for helping National Mill Dog Rescue give me a second chance at a pain-free life.

Love, Caydee
